Various Artists - Judgment Night
Sorry if having the store closed last week caused you any great distress. I flatter myself to think you noticed. I was going to recommend a Steely Dan record or something but I’ve seen the light.
Judgment Night is the soundtrack to a pretty dreadful (I am told) 1993 film. It was groundbreaking, though, because they paired a pretty impressive rock roster (Pearl Jam, Sonic Youth, Faith No More, Helmet, Living Colour) with a real who’s who of rap at the moment (House of Pain, Cypress Hill, Sir Mix-A-Lot). If I were feeling really generous, I’d say that a ton of modern rap-rock (or at least the first decade of it) starts here, for better or worse.

That second track, Fallin’ (Teenage Fan Club & De La Soul) is outstanding.
The movie itself isn’t terrible, but it’s nothing to get worked up over, either. Dennis Leary gets to monologue in his comic style, and a not-yet famous Jeremy Piven gets some screen time in a role whose ending is easily predicted…
I laughed when I saw the album cover. You “turned the clock back a bit” on this one! I actually purchased this CD back in the day (was a junior in high school). Not a bad disc at all. Was a big Cypress Hill fan at the time
***Update*** Just found the disc stashed in a box, in the garage. Uploading to iTunes as we speak. It’s pretty scratched, so who knows what it’s going to sound like :)
